UPDATE ·

Medical Assistance work requirement starts January 1, 2027: what to know

Starting January 1, 2027, some adults on Medical Assistance in Minnesota must show work or another activity each month to keep their coverage.

The rule is for adults 21 to 64. In a typical month, you would need to earn at least $580, or spend 80 hours working, volunteering, in a work program, or in school at least half-time.

Many people don't have to meet it: people who live with their child under 19, are pregnant, have or can get Medicare, or get Medical Assistance because of a disability. Others can be exempt, for example American Indian and Alaska Native members, people in treatment, people who are medically frail and caregivers of someone with a disability.
