MINNASSIST
Will you have to work to keep Medical Assistance in 2027?
Maybe. Starting January 1, 2027, some adults on Medical Assistance (MA) must show work or another activity each month. Many people won't have to. MinnAssist helps you for free, by phone. Call MinnAssist at (866) 655-6606.
What to know
- Who it's for: adults 21 to 64 who don't live with their children under 19, aren't pregnant, can't get Medicare, and don't get MA because of a disability.
- How to meet it each month: earn at least $580, or spend 80 hours working, volunteering or in a work program (or a mix of these). Going to school or an apprenticeship at least half-time also counts.
- You may not have to do it (you may be exempt) if you are: American Indian or Alaska Native; following SNAP or MFIP work rules; in drug or alcohol treatment; living with a serious or long-term health condition (medically frail); caring for someone with a disability; a veteran rated totally disabled; in jail or prison, or just released; just out of a hospital or similar place; traveling outside your area for medical care; living in a county with a federal emergency or high unemployment; or 21 to 25 and were in foster care at 18.
- People it applies to will also renew every 6 months. American Indians and Alaska Natives keep yearly renewals.
- DHS explains it here: mn.gov/dhs/work-requirements.
