What to know
- What opens this 60-day window to sign up: losing job-based coverage, turning 26 and coming off a parent's plan, or losing Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare.
- What doesn't: dropping coverage on purpose, or not paying your premium, including COBRA.
- You can apply for Medical Assistance or MinnesotaCare any time of year if you qualify.
- Rough income limits: Medical Assistance up to about $1,768 a month for a single adult, or $3,657 a month for a family of 4. MinnesotaCare up to about $31,300 a year for 1 person, or $64,300 for a family of 4 in 2026 ($31,920 and $66,000 in 2027).
- MNsure says its plans typically cost less each month than COBRA, and MNsure is the only place to get tax credits that lower the cost.
- Open enrollment for 2027 plans runs November 1, 2026 to January 15, 2027. Sign up by December 15 for coverage starting January 1.
Limits from DHS (form DHS-3461A): Medical Assistance effective July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027; MinnesotaCare by calendar year. Income is before taxes. Call us even if you're a little over. Some income doesn't count.

- MNsure says its plans typically have a lower monthly premium, and only MNsure offers tax credits to lower the cost.

- Yes, if you qualify. Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare are open all year.
